Padu Dance

A lost treasure of Khadia tribe

The loss of a dance called Padu of the Khadia community can be considered as the loss of a unique treasure that brought a lot of joy to the tribe. It was unique because it was the simplest and easiest, most spontaneous and entertaining of all dances. Though, even during those days, it was not the most popular dance among the youth, it was rather one among the elders, who would, on their joyful moments in their courtyard would just get up wherever they would be, and start the song, the steps and the movement. A little sip of handia, the local drink, would enrich the dance enormously.

Padu is no more danced in the villages as it used to be during the olden days. Today, many may not even know that there was a dance by such a name, but this was indeed one that entertained the community for ages. Largely, this dance was a courtyard dance rather than a dance-floor dance, and courtyard was the place where friends and relatives assembled for any cordial purpose In such a time when they were in joyful mood they just sang and danced freely.

HOW IT IS PERFORMED ?

Normally, the dancers from two groups as opposite semicircles so that when one group of dancers sing and dance, the other just does the steps, and when the first stops the second responds by singing and dancing. If the dancers are male female groups, the songs of interchanging turns sound much richer.
